Mitsubishi Hyper Heat units are a subset of mini-split inverter heat pumps that can provide heat even in the coldest climates. They can heat down to -13 F at 90% heating capacity, and can heat down to -5 F at 100% heating capacity. This means that a 24,000 BTU multi-zone outdoor unit will produce 30,600 BTU at 47 F and 25,000 BTU at 5 F. Much better figures than the standard outdoor unit.

How can hyperheated outdoor units heat at such low temperatures? There's a lot of engineering behind this answer, but here are some reasons:

• All hyperheat outdoor units are larger than their standard counterparts. Larger units mean larger coils allowing a larger surface area to capture the heat from outside and transfer it to the indoor unit via the compressor.
• Hyperheat units also have an accumulator with a capillary tube and a two-way solenoid valve: this adjusts the refrigerant flow to increase the pressure and then increase the temperature of the exhaust gas from the compressor to the indoor unit.

Simply put, these features allow the outdoor unit to retain higher heat in colder temperatures, transferring this heat to the indoor unit. It's impressive technology!
